Barbara Liakakos passed away peacefully and surrounded by her family on January 13, 2016.  Born in Germany in 1947 to John and Eva (Winter) Tyminski, the family moved to Chicago where Barbara would eventually earn a Bachelor of Arts in the Teaching of English at the University of Illinois at Chicago (1969) and where she would meet her husband, Chris Liakakos.

Barbara taught at St. Tarcissus School and St. William School, both in Chicago, before moving to Mt. Prospect where she lovingly raised her two daughters and continued her teaching career for almost 20 years at St. Raymond School.

Besides her passion for and gift of working with students, Barbara lived for her family and loved travelling, entertaining, cooking and baking, reading and enjoying her “summer house”.

Barbara is survived by Chris, her husband of 42 years, daughters and sons-in-law (Nayia & Joe Sivulka; Alexis Liakakos & Jeremy Corcoran) and her beloved grandchildren (Luke, Ava & Neve Sivulka; Beckett Corcoran). She will be indescribably missed by her family and friends who are invited to gather on Saturday, January 30th at St. Raymond de Penafort Church 301 S. I Oka Ave., Mt. Prospect.

Visitation at 9:30am until Memorial Mass at 10:30am.  In lieu of flowers Barbara’s family suggests making a donation in Barbara’s honor to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network – www.pancan.org.
